Saint Stephen's Chapel is located in the background of the statues of the Christian Pantheon and built on the pattern of the Árpád era.
The foundation stone of the chapel was laid in the autumn of 1996. Thanks to the donations of many people, whose names are commemorated on a bronze plaque near the entrance, the ecumenical chapel was completed by the summer of the following year and consecrated on 16 August 1997.
The St Stephen's Chapel in Lakitelek is the first church in the old socialist countries, which was built through secular initiative instead of ecclesiastical. It was designed and planned by Ferenc Callmayer and built by József Vankó, a contractor from Lakitelek. It is named after Szent István (Saint Stephen) and at the suggestion of István Nemeskürti its top is decorated with a replica of the Hungarian Holy Crown. The altar was designed by Győző Sikota, and only three of the eosin Holy Trinity ornaments were made in the world, one for the Chapel in Lakitelek, one for the Rock Church in Gellérthegy and one for the Hungarian House Church in Melbourne, Australia.
The consecration of its stained glass windows took place on 27 August 2011,which is the work of István Máté and Györgyi Lantos. The Chapel is an integral part of the programmes of Népfőiskola, and in addition to religious ceremonies, celebrations and commemorations, weddings and christenings are also held within its walls.
